Tarrallton Tiger School Garden

Growing Communities Everywhere

In a community defined by our military, we recognize that 1 in 6 military families experience food insecurity. 76% of students at Tarrallton Elementary School are from military families. In 2023, we constructed two, 24 feet raised beds to enable Tarrallton Elementary School to kick-start its school garden program. In 2024, we took responsibility of the former Tarrallton Community Garden to create a single, unified garden on the site.

This project includes eight production beds and a pollinator garden with plans for a garden kiosk to support garden instruction.

This project would not be possible without the partnership of the teachers, staff, and parents of Tarrallton Elementary School, Freemason Street Baptist Church, HRVA Homes, Norfolk Master Gardeners, and Tarrallton Recreation Center, and the Norfolk Department of Parks and Recreation. The project was funded through the charitable contributions of Patricia Smith, Veterans First, and Whole Foods.
