Tarrallton Tiger School Garden

Growing Communities Everywhere

In a community shaped by our military, we acknowledge that 1 in 6 military families face food insecurity. At Tarrallton Elementary School, 76% of students come from military families. In 2023, we built two 24-foot raised garden beds to help launch the school's garden program. In 2024, we assumed responsibility for the former Tarrallton Community Garden and transformed it into a single, unified garden on the site.

This project features eight production beds and a pollinator garden, with plans for a garden kiosk to enhance garden-based learning.

This initiative would not have been possible without the support of Tarrallton Elementary School’s teachers, staff, and parents, as well as our partners at Freemason Street Baptist Church, HRVA Homes, Norfolk Master Gardeners, Tarrallton Community Center, and the Norfolk Department of Parks and Recreation. Funding for the project was made possible through the generous contributions of Patricia Smith, Veterans First, and Whole Foods.
